On behalf of the Institute of Archaeology at the Research Centre for the Humanities two persons participate in the ARP Ambassador Program: young research fellow Róbert Szederkényi under the professional guidance of Friderika Horváth. They applied with two research projects on the sustainable management of archaeological projects: Almásfüzitő-Foktorok from the Roman period and Zalavár-Vársziget from the Carolingian period. In collaboration with the topic leaders of the sample projects, they collect and organise the data files generated during the research. After data cleaning and version control, they will develop a storage system on the Institute's NAS server and record the principles of data management during the workflow. A project resource and file-level templates will be developed for the research projects, containing a repositable set of project metadata.

Of the two projects selected, the archaeological survey of the Roman site of Almásfüzitő-Foktorok was a small project that lasted over a decade and is now considered complete. The available dataset allows for the modelling of all the segments of the archaeological project, from the collection of preliminary sources, through the fieldwork, processing and dissemination phases, to archiving. The research of the site of Zalavár-Vársziget, looking back on a history of more than 70 years, is still an ongoing project. It is realized by a cooperation between the Institute of Archaeology of the Research Centre for the Humanities and the Hungarian National Museum. With the support of the HUN-REN Secretariat, a major phase of the research will be completed and the results published by 2025.

In the framework of the ARP project, Szederkényi and Horváth aim to systematically organise the textual, drawing and photographic documentation of the fieldwork phase. As a very diverse and complex resource, the exercise can serve as a good case study for how digital and digitised data can be made accessible with an appropriate glossary that combines both repository and researcher/user considerations. They hope that the platform provided by the ARP project will provide a forum for collaborative thinking, so that researchers can build on each other's experiences to develop appropriate future practices for managing their research programs.
